One third of babies born outside marriage

Almost one-third of Irish babies are born outside marriage, according to the Government's latest health statistics.

The figures published today show that 31.2% of babies born in Ireland in 2001 had unmarried parents, a reduction of 0.5% on the previous year's statistics.
