Govt urged to end deportation of immigrant families
The Green Party has called on the Government to end deportations of immigrant families and their Irish-born children.
The Department of Justice recently wrote to around 700 immigrants with Irish-born children, giving them just three weeks to seek permission to stay in Ireland on humanitarian grounds.
The Government is planning to deport these people on foot of a Supreme Court ruling which said that the non-national parents of Irish-born children are not entitled to live in Ireland, even though their children are Irish citizens.
The Green Party said the Government's heavy-handed implementation of the ruling has led to some families fleeing their dwellings and living their lives on the run.
