An obstetrician was struck off the register of medical practitioners tonight following claims by more than 60 women that he unnecessarily removed their wombs.

The move against Dr Michael Neary was directed by the Irish Medical Council after they declared him guilty of professional misconduct in relation to complaints from 10 patients.
