Colombian prosecutors have sought maximum sentences of 20 years in prison for the three Irishmen accused of training anti-government rebels in the South American country.

James Monaghan, Martin McCauley and Niall Connolly were arrested in Bogota in August 2001 and charged with training the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, a left-wing army that has been fighting the government for almost 40 years, in explosives techniques.
