Plane with cracked window lands at Shannon

An Italian Boeing 777 200 aircraft has had to divert to Shannon airport after the crew discovered a crack in the aircraft's windscreen.

An Italian Boeing 777 200 aircraft has had to divert to Shannon airport after the crew discovered a crack in the aircraft's windscreen.

The Al Italia plane was en route to John F Kennedy airport in New York from Rome this evening when its captain alerted authorities at Shannon to the emergency.

There were 300 passengers on board the plane which is believed to have landed safely at Shannon in the past half hour.
