Man due in court in connection with asylum crackdown

A man is due to appear before a special sitting of Limerick District Court later today in connection with this weekend's Garda crackdown on bogus asylum seekers.

A man is due to appear before a special sitting of Limerick District Court later today in connection with this weekend's Garda crackdown on bogus asylum seekers.

A total of seventeen people were detained by gardaí in the operation and more arrests are expected.

So far, four of those detained have been released on bail.

The National Bureau of Immigration say the detainees had been refused asylum but had applied again under different names.
