Around 700 foreigners are facing swift deportation from Ireland today under the Government's new policy of refusing automatic residency rights to the parents of Irish children.

The policy change followed a Supreme Court ruling last January stating that the parents of Irish-born children were not entitled to live in Ireland simply because their children were Irish citizens.
