Unions at CIE are warning tomorrow's "no-fares" protest could be the start of a major industrial confrontation.

They are demanding that Transport Minister Seamus Brennan re-open consultation with them on his plans to break up the company and privatise some Dublin Bus routes.

They have pointed to the experience of privatisation in London, saying it hasn't worked.

Noel Dowling of SIPTU said this evening that it was vital there is a rational and informed public debate on the issue.
