U2 lead singer Bono called on German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder today to support a global fund to fight Aids in Africa, saying Germany was among the countries blocking greater spending.

In an open letter to the chancellor, the Dublin rocker said the world was “witnessing genocide” as 7,000 Africans die each day from Aids.
