The Irish Congress of Trade Unions says it hopes the independent childcare survey, published today by the CSO, will make the Government wake up to the problem.

It revealed that working parents with young children are forced to pay more for childcare facilities in Dublin than anywhere else across the country.

The average cost in the capital is around €5 per hour.

The Assistant General Secretary of Congress, Joan Carmichael, commented this evening that unless the Government takes action, more and more people with children will be forced to give up their jobs.
