UN poverty report launched in Dublin
The United Nations report on tackling world poverty has been launched in Dublin.
The report outlines a new approach to aid and development in the Third World, with rich nations urged to dismantle unfair trade subsidies and tariffs, write off unsustainable debt and create better access to new technologies for poorer countries.
Ireland was chosen as the location for the launch due to its commitment to giving 0.7% of GNP in aid by 2007.
