Lord Mayor to formally open Dublin Spire

Dublin Lord Mayor Dermot Lacey is due to formally open the city's Spire monument later today.

Dublin Lord Mayor Dermot Lacey is due to formally open the city's Spire monument later today.

The 120m spike, which was originally due to be completed for the millennium, was erected last January and cost almost €5m.

Mr Lacey is due to bury a time capsule in the ground under the monument today in the hope that it will remain there for at least two centuries.
