Campaigners hoping to preserve the ruins of Carrickmines Castle in south Co Dublin have expressed their disappointment at the Government's latest effort to destroy the remains.

The Government wants to remove large parts of the medieval castle to make way for a controversial phase of the M50 motorway, but the High Court has issued an injunction preventing the work from going ahead unless the Department of the Environment can prove that the castle ruins are not a national monument.
