NAMHI concerned about cutbacks
The National Association for Mentally Handicapped says it is concerned that funding of services for the intellectually disabled will be scaled down next year once they are no longer under the spotlight.
NAMHI was reacting to comments made by the Taoiseach this morning describing problems in providing places for some handicapped people as "short term initiatives".
General Secretary Deirdre Carroll has said that they are worried that once the pressure created by the Special Olympics is off, Government funding for such centres will be cut.
