School bosses have said the Government's plans to redeploy hundreds of teachers will have a serious impact on students.

Spokesman George O'Callaghan said the loss of 300 "concessionary" teachers, who fill gaps in school rosters and are often involved in minority subjects, was very serious.

Class sizes in secondary schools will be larger this autumn as a result.

The 300 teachers are being redeployed to special needs services.

The Labour Party has also called on Education Minister Noel Dempsey to reverse his decision.
