Carers call for reform as Irish society changes
The Carers' Association of Ireland has called for radical reform of the care system in Ireland to meet the growing demand as the aged population grows.
Enda Egan, the Association's chief executive, said: "Irish society is going to be changing quite a bit in the future in terms of the demographics and ageing older people.
"We're going to end up in a situation where we're going to have a lot more older people than we've ever had before," he said.
"We're going to end up with a lot of people requiring care and we will have less people to look after them and care for them."
Carers from throughout the world are sharing their experiences with the Irish association at an international conference in Dublin today.
