FG wants Dúchas dumping findings released

Fine Gael environment spokesman Bernard Allen TD has called on the Government to release the findings of its investigation into illegal dumping by Dúchas at the earliest opportunity.

"The fact that the Department of the Environment has admitted that Dúchas was involved in illegal dumping at a game reserve in South Tipperary are extremely serious. Environment Minister Martin Cullen must make the full details of his inquiry known at the earliest possible opportunity," said Deputy Allen.

"It should be possible to have details of the enquiry ready within a matter of days. Minister Cullen should then release the results of his investigation to the Oireachtas Environment Committee, which is currently discussing the Protection of the Environment Bill.

"He should also explain exactly how he proposes to deal with these extremely serious allegations. After all, nobody would expect a state body which is charged with protecting our heritage to be involved in illegal dumping."
