A Belfast priest was stabbed in the face with a screwdriver while trying to prevent a burglary at a nursery school in the west of the city.

Fr Matt Wallace, from the Turf Lodge area, said he stumbled across burglars in St Martin's school this morning.

The priest said he grabbed one of the men, who subsequently stabbed him in the nose with a screwdriver and threatened to bring assault charges against him.

The suspected burglar was arrested after police were called to take statements.
