McCreevy, Dempsey under fire after ceiling collapse
Charlie McCreevy has come under fire from Fine Gael after the collapse of part of a ceiling at St Nessan's school in Mungret, Co Limerick.
Two plasterboards fell from the ceiling of a pre-fabricated building while schoolchildren were studying. No one was injured.
Fine Gael education spokesperson Olwyn Enright has slammed the Finance Minister for the lack of funding for repairs to school buildings. She also criticised Education Minister Noel Dempsey for "failing to secure adequate funding" for repairs around the country.
"What will it take before this Government realises the consequences of under-investment in school infrastructure? Schools are literally falling down around children's heads because neither the Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy nor the Minister for Education, Noel Dempsey, consider classroom safety a priority," she said.
