Ken Livingstone 'targeted by loyalists in 1980s'

A British newspaper has published claims that Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, was the target of a loyalist paramilitary murder plot in the 1980s.

Former UDA killer Michael Stone told a British newspaper that Mr Livingstone was targeted while he was leader of the Greater London Council from 1981 to 1986.

The current mayor had publicly expressed support for Irish republicans at the time. Mr Stone said the planned attack was eventually called off at the last minute because Mr Livingstone's death would have led to serious political repercussions.
