A garda on patrol in Dublin dived into the Liffey last night to save a man from drowning.

A garda on patrol in Dublin dived into the Liffey last night to save a man from drowning.

Garda Adrienne Condon was on patrol at Aston Quay at around 10.30pm when she saw a man in difficulty in the river.

She entered the water, grabbed the man in the water and held him up until colleagues who had arrived on the scene came to her assistance.

The 21-year-old man and garda Condon were taken to St. James' Hospital. Both were later released.
