Three people have died in overnight road accidents, bringing the total death toll over the May Bank Holiday weekend to nine.

The latest victim was a motorcyclist in his 20s who collided with a car in Swords, Co Dublin, just after midnight.

Two other men in their 20s also died in Co Westmeath when the car they were travelling in was in collision with a lorry on the Moate-Ballymore road around 12 miles from Athlone last night.

A woman was also injured in the crash.

The latest fatalities bring the road death toll so far this May to 16, compared to 20 for the entire month last year.
