Man charged with elderly farmer's murder

A man of 52 was tonight charged with murdering an elderly farmer in Co Clare.

Jack Daly, 83, was found dead this morning in his farmhouse he shared with his younger sister near the village of Bellharbour.

Police later arrested the 52-year-old man and took away a number of items from the victim’s home, including a hatchet.

The District Court at Tulla, Co Clare, tonight remanded John McKinerney in custody until next Wednesday.
