New ambassador is sworn in
The new British Ambassador to Ireland was officially sworn in at a ceremony in Dublin today.
Stewart Eldon was accompanied by his wife and daughter as he presented his Letter of Credence to Irish president Mary McAleese.
Mr Eldon, who replaces Ivor Roberts, was escorted to and from the ceremony by motorcycle escorts drawn from the 2nd Cavalry Squadron.
The ambassador, whose last posting was in New York, joined the Foreign Office in 1976.
