Govt urged to act on childcare measures

The Government is being asked to urgently implement adequate vetting procedures for people wishing to work with children.

The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children says the Minister for Children has given a commitment to introduce the measures, but the Minister for Justice has failed to follow this through.

The group is now seeking an urgent meeting with Michael McDowell to seek assurances that the issue will be addressed in the near future.

ISPCC chief executive Paul Gilligan said this evening that ministers need to stop ignoring the issue.
