Vintners demand ID card scheme

There are fresh calls for the introduction of a mandatory identification card.

The Vintners Federation, which represents more than 6,000 publicans outside Dublin, made the demand at a meeting with the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children today.

They discussed a number of measures needed to combat the growing problem of abuse and misuse of alcohol.

VFI chief executive Tadhg O'Sullivan says a proper ID card is an essential step.
