PDs delay decision on voting method

The Progressive Democrats have deferred a decision to change how they elect their leader because of party rules.

The move was due to be discussed at their annual party conference, in Galway this weekend.

Some party members have favoured the system used by the Labour party, whereby all members have a say in the election of a leader.

The motion was originally being pushed by the PD branch in Dublin south east, the home of Justice Minister Michael McDowell.

However, General Secretary of the PDs, John Higgins, says that they are not in a position to deal with the matter now.
