The Merchants Quay Project has revealed that 10,000 heroin users have visited its operation in Dublin since 1997.

The Merchants Quay Project has revealed that 10,000 heroin users have visited its operation in Dublin since 1997.

The support organisation for homeless people and drug users said it believes there are thousands more heroin users throughout Ireland.

The project is due to launch a national awareness campaign today calling for a change in public attitudes towards drug users, which it said is vital if the problem is to be tackled properly.
