Irish aid workers prepare to travel to Gulf

Irish aid workers are preparing to travel to the countries surrounding Iraq this weekend to prepare for the humanitarian disaster that will inevitably be sparked by the US/British war.

GOAL is planning to send additional staff to the region in the coming days, while a Trocaire delegation is due to leave for Jordan tomorrow.

Spokesperson Caroline Lynch said the Iraqi people are already heavily dependent on food aid and are facing additional hardship due to the coalition attack on their country.

The United Nations has predicted that up to 11 million Iraqis, half the country's population, could be in need of assistance after the war.
