The Competition Authority is to carry out a detailed study of eight professions including the medical and legal professions to examine how they can be made more competitive.

The initiative follows a study that found they were affected by a range of restrictive regulations.

Alan Gray of consultants INDECON who carried out the study, says changes could cut the price of services provided by doctors, lawyers and other professions.
