Health experts have insisted that the threat to Irish people from severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is minimal.

Speaking after a two-hour meeting today, an expert group appointed by the Department of Health said a man exhibiting symptoms of the illness in a Dublin hospital may not have contracted the strain of pneumonia which has been described by the World Health Organisation as a global health threat.
