Around a quarter of a million people gathered in Dublin city last night for the annual Skyfest fireworks display to mark the St. Patrick's festival.

The spectacle kicked off along the city quays at 8pm and lasted 20 minutes.

Over 6,000 fireworks lit up the night sky.

It took team of a nearly 20 people six days to assemble the display.

Meanwhile, last-minute preparations are going ahead for St. Patrick's day parades tomorrow in cities around the country.
