Lennon cross-examines garda colleague at Morris Tribunal

A superintendent at the centre of garda corruption allegations in Co Donegal has begun personally cross-examining another superintendent to whom some of the allegations were made.

Superintendent Kevin Lennon has no legal representation at the tribunal because the High Court is currently considering an application to have his legal costs covered by the State.

In the tribunal today, Mr Lennon questioned Superintendent Tom Long about why he had destroyed hand-written notes he made when corruption allegations were made by Mrs Sheenagh McMahon, the wife of another garda.

Mr Lennon said the notes were crucial to his defence.

Mrs McMahon had told Superintendent Long that her husband, Detective Noel McMahon, along with Superintendent Lennon and a garda informer, staged explosives finds in Co Donegal to further their own careers.
