The Equality Authority has reported a 19% increase in the number of people bringing discrimination cases last year and said the levels of discrimination in the workplace remain disturbingly high.

In its annual report, the authority expressed particular concern about the number of gender discrimination cases coming before it, despite the fact that legislation banning such discrimination has been in place since 1997.
