The body of a patient who disappeared from a psychiatric hospital in Omagh was found floating in the river in the centre of the Co Tyrone town today.

The body of a patient who disappeared from a psychiatric hospital in Omagh was found floating in the river in the centre of the Co Tyrone town today.

Gerard Treacy disappeared on Saturday from the Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital where he was being treated.

The body of the 40-year-old farmer from Boho, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh was spotted by a passer-by in the Strule River close to the Abbey Bridge said police.

It was recovered by members of the PSNI underwater search team.

The death was not being treated as suspicious, said police but a post mortem will be carried out.
