Shannon protestors charged with public order offences

Gardai have charged ten people with public order offences following a series of arrests during protests at Shannon airport yesterday.

The ten appeared before Tulla District Court in Clare last night before being released on bail to appear before Ennis District Court next Friday.

The group was arrested when anti-war protestors attempted to breach airport security by trying to destroy a section of the perimeter fence.

Several hundred gardai, some in riot gear, had been on standby to deal with the threat of direct action.
