Taxi drivers consider strike action
Dublin Taxi drivers attached to SIPTU say they are considering more protest action over government plans for the industry since deregulation.
They are demanding the appointment of a statutory regulator.
They have been engaged in talks with the man appointed in the interim.
One of the subjects under discussion is the proposed colour change of Dublin cabs.
SIPTU's Jerry Brennan says, with their livelihoods in jeopardy, it is the last thing on taxi driver's minds.
He said: "Our members and their families are suffering huge financial disruption.
"People are losing their homes. The last thing on their agenda or ours is the colour of a vehicle.
"Irish taxis and the taxi sign on Irish taxis is probably the most visible identification of a taxi throughout Europe."
