'Read-a-thon' raises more than €1m

Around 30,000 Irish schoolchildren have raised more than €1m for charity in this year's MS "Read-a-thon".

The proceeds, the largest since the "Read-a-thon" began in the late 1980s, will go the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Schoolchildren read more than 500,000 books as part of this year's fund-raiser.
