Loyalists in Northern Ireland are urging the British government to work with them and help persuade the paramilitary group, the Ulster Defence Association, to go down a political path.

Belfast councillor Frank McCoubrey of the Ulster Political Research group has made the appeal following yesterday's declaration of a peacefire from the UDA.

However, the Belfast councillor insists that they have to steer the UDA away from violence for good.
