The Irish Farmers Association has claimed that cheap, imported potatoes are being sold to caterers who believe they are buying Irish produce.

IFA spokesman Derek Cunningham said the imported potatoes, which are often washed, peeled and ready-to-eat, represent big losses for Irish farmers.

The IFA has demanded that all potatoes sold in Ireland be clearly labelled with their country of origin.
