Greens: work on Carrickmines illegal

A Green Party TD is calling for the suspension of ongoing works at Carrickmines Castle in Dublin, pending a decision on the legality of the license under which archaeologists are working.

Deputy Ciaran Cuffe believes the license is invalid and therefore, that the work being carried out on that part of the castle is unauthorised.

Deputy Cuffe insists that a spokesperson for the national museum has claimed that they were not consulted prior to the issuing of the license.

He says that under the National Monument Act, there must be consultation between Dúchas and the National Museum before a license is issued.
