Dumped baby was only days old
A post-mortem examination on a baby boy whose body was found among building site rubble near Dublin today established that the infant was only a number of days old.
The body, wrapped in a blanket, was discovered by construction workers at Swords, Co Dublin, yesterday. A preliminary examination by Ireland’s assistant state pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, revealed there were no marks on the child.
The full post-mortem confirmed that the baby was full term and had been alive at birth. The cause of death was not revealed.
Gardai today renewed an appeal for the mother to come forward as she could need medical attention and pledged she would be treated with compassion and sympathy.
