Two youths quizzed in connection with woman's death

Two 16-year-old youths were today being questioned about the death of a Belfast pensioner just after her home was ransacked by a gang.

Mary Thompson, 82, collapsed and died less than an hour after being manhandled when four youths forced their way into her home on the Belvoir estate on Thursday night.

One member of the gang held the pensioner, who suffered from a heart condition, down in a chair while the remaining youths ransacked the bungalow.

After the gang left Mrs Thompson was able to contact her family who live nearby and they went to her house.

It was as she was explaining what had happened that she collapsed and died.

Her daughter Linda Stewart said: “She had a heart condition and it must have been the shock that killed her“.
