O'Caolain slams manufacturing sector over waste

Sinn Fein's Caoimhin O'Caolain says the manufacturing sector in this country is abandoning their responsibilities when it comes to waste management.

The Dail deputy attacked the Government over what he says is a blatant attempt to punish householders on refuse disposal while manufacturers continue to get off lightly.

Deputy O'Caolain says the manufacturing sector should be dragged kicking and screaming into the equation when it comes to paying for waste disposal.

"There is a very sound view within the wider constituency throughout the land in support of recycling, in support of reducing and in the support of reuse.

"The manufacturing sector have to be brought screaming into this equation. They are the ones responsible for much of the waste that is generated through our consumables and yet they are getting away without any contribution to this."
