Dublin taxi drivers to strike in deregulation row

Taxi drivers will be withdrawing their services from Dublin airport today from between 9am and 1pm.

The move is the first of three strikes by SIPTU over the effects deregulation has had on the industry.

SIPTU officials insist that they are concerned about the rising number of incidents among taxi drivers involving alleged criminal activity.

The union said such actions have been committed by new drivers who have entered the sector since deregulation.
