US company creates 150 jobs in Roscommon

A US-based manufacturer of medical products is creating 150 jobs in Co Roscommon, it was today announced.

Harmac Medical Products is expanding its operation in Castlerea with the help of €1.7m investment.

The new jobs will be created over the next three years, bringing the number employed at its Irish operation to 250. Around 70 of the positions have already been filled.

“This is a significant development of Harmac’s business in Castlerea and reflects very well on the success of the existing workforce,” said Tanaiste Mary Harney, announcing the expansion.

“It is good news for Co Roscommon and the surrounding area as it will increase the sustainability of the Irish operation.”

Harmac, which is based in Buffalo, New York, produces a variety of medical products and laboratory devices for pharmaceutical and healthcare companies.

Its Irish site was established in 1998 and is a significant supplier to the Irish operation of Abbott Laboratories and its business in Europe.

The expansion came with the help of IDA Ireland, an Irish investment and development agency with government responsibility for securing new investment from overseas.
