Gardai in Limerick have revealed that the man murdered in the city last night was spoken to during the investigation into the abduction of the Ryan brothers.

However they insist the two investigations are separate.

Ciaran Keane's body was found on a country road outside Limerick last night with a bullet wound to the back of the head.

Gardai are continuing to question two suspects who were arrested earlier. Gardai say they have not yet spoken to Eddie and Kieran Ryan, who turned up in Portlaoise this morning.

The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, has revealed to the Dail he has spoken with the two brothers.

"The abduction and detention of the two young men from Limerick, to who I have just spoken, allied to the suffering caused to their immediate family is totally unacceptable in a civilised society and I will not tolerate it."
