Ferry resumes course after engine failure

Helicopters and lifeboats were today sent to the aid of a passenger ferry which lost power off the southeast coast.

The Stena Europe, which was carrying 155 passengers, lost engine power just before 1pm about two miles from Tuscar Rock, Wexford.

Rescue services made their way to the vessel but engineers on board managed to regain power shortly afterwards.

A spokeswoman for Stena said the ferry, which was on its way from Rosslare to Fishguard, had resumed its course. It was expected to arrive in Fishguard later this afternoon.
