Edith Wilkins charity urged to reject Allen donation
An SDLP politician has urged the Edith Wilkins Foundation to refuse to accept a €40,000 donation from well-known chef Tim Allen, who was convicted of possessing child pornography last week.
The judge in the case agreed not to send Allen to jail if he made the donation, but SDLP Assembly member Patricia Lewsley has urged the charity to turn away the 'tainted money'.
Mr Allen, the husband of celebrity chef Darina Allen who runs the Ballymaloe Cookery School in Co Cork, pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography last week.
The judge's decision to waive a custodial sentence in favour of a large donation to charity has received widespread condemnation, with many saying Allen bought his way out of jail.
