Bus and Rail workers plan further protest

The public transport network will grind to a halt again at the end of the month.

Members of the NBRU and SIPTU are engaging in another four-hour stoppage in protest at plans to break up CIE on Monday 27 January.

Liam Tobin of the National Bus and Rail Worker's Union says Seamus Brennan must talk to the unions and give commitments on jobs.

He said: "A lot of this could have been avoided if the Minister accepted that he has an obligation to consult or negotiate with the trade union.

"It is member's jobs he is doing away with although he denies this but that is exactly what is happening. If he accepts he has an obligation and arranges to have this consultation done well then there should not be any need for protest in the interim."
